2018-5-8 – The first thousand miles

So far, so good.  The Outback has been a pleasure to drive and the camping setup works admirably.  The Skyline Drive did not disappoint – spectacular scenery.  I’ve been to some beautiful and remarkable places and met some interesting people, with lots more to come.  I’m psyched!

A few things along the way:

  • Stopped at Monticello and gained a new appreciation of Thomas Jefferson.  The buildings and grounds are beautiful and interesting.  Good tour of the house.

  • Visited Luray Caverns, which I’ve always wanted to do.  The overall setup is seriously touristy, but the cave is vast, fascinating and remarkable.
  • Had planned to go down the last part of the Skyline Drive on the way to Graham Ordinary, but opted for the Interstate because I was running a bit late.  Turned out to be a good thing – I don’t think these fires were in the park, but I would have been driving through a lot of smoke.
